Because of new advancements, people using solar power are no longer bound by daylight hours. Thanks to the new “Molten Salt Solar Panels”, we have brought about a new age in Solar technology. Unlike the common photovoltaic solar panels which are dependent upon sunlight and are useless at night, this new type can continue to produce energy even at night.
This is thanks to a special new system, that utilizes thousands of mirrors around a tower. These mirrors direct sunlight to the towers, and generate great amounts of heat. This heat melts salt, and that is the key to energy storage and the conversion stage.
This technology is great because molten salt retains more heat than other types of salt. Once melted, it cools down at the rate of one degree Celsius per day, meaning that it can store heat for a long time. This heat it then used to convert water into steam, and then give power to turbines which generates electricity, especially at night.
Furthermore, molten salt systems are more cost-efficient compared to regular batteries. The reason is that batteries may be a better way of storing electricity, however they have high costs and maintenance. On the other hand, molten salt is more sustainable, and produces energy all the time.
China has already took the initiative for utilizing this new technology, as it has planned to create 30 such molten salt parks in future years with the aim to revolutionize it’s renewable infrastructure. Such a large scale adaptation of such technology for more renewable technology, and take us to a greener future by limiting the dependence on fossil fuels.
